This tourist destination is unique in its kind as visitors can appreciate not just 1 but several Rainbow Mountains, and also explore an impressive Stone Forest.

We will travel for an average of 3 hours and 30 minutes to the starting point of our hike at Wallata Q'asa located at 4790 m / 15,715 ft.

We will begin the hike that will take approximately half an hour, making the first stop at the first viewpoint where we will appreciate the first rainbow mountain. After a short rest, we continue to the second viewpoint, the second rainbow mountain and the impressive Stone Forest located at 4960 m / 16,273 ft.

The Stone Forest is one of Palcoyo's unique attractions that you won't find at Vinicunca.

What is it?

  • It is a natural rock formation created by wind and rain erosion over millions of years
  • The rocks have whimsical shapes resembling animal figures, humans and abstract shapes
  • It is located at 4,960 masl, next to the colorful mountains

How is it visited?

  • It is included in the second viewpoint tour
  • You can walk among the rock formations (flat terrain)
  • It is a perfect place for creative photos

Fun fact: The Stone Forest is considered a sacred place by local Andean communities, who make offerings to Pachamama at this site.

The hike to Palcoyo has an EASY TO MODERATE difficulty level, making it one of the most accessible options to see colorful mountains in Cusco.
