Then we visit at km 104 Chachabamba (2250 m). The path continues for 3 hours until the visit to Wiñayhuayna (always young, 6 km), which for some was the ancient house of the priests of Machu Picchu.

In the landscape you can appreciate the Urubamba river in a fantastic way. Continuing the route we will arrive at Inti Punku (01.30 hours, 4 km) where we will have the first view of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary. After enjoying a magnificent view of the citadel, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes to go to the hotel and have dinner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before experiencing this unique adventure

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. The Peruvian government limits access to the Inca Trail to only 500 people per day (including guides and porters). For this reason, tickets often sell out 3 to 6 months in advance, especially during high season (May to September).

We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your spot. We handle the entire ticket purchasing process once you confirm your reservation.

The 2-day Inca Trail has a MODERATE difficulty level. Unlike the 4-day trek which reaches 4,200 meters, here the maximum altitude is 2,700 masl (at Wiñayhuayna).

Key facts:

  • Total distance: approx. 12 km (10 km on day 1, 2 km on day 2)
  • Hiking time: 5-6 hours on the first day
  • Terrain: mostly moderate uphill and Inca stone steps

It is ideal for people with regular to good physical condition. No previous trekking experience is required, but you should be accustomed to walking.

Minimum recommended age: 10 years (accompanied by adults).

Maximum age: No strict limit, but good mobility is recommended. People over 65 should consult their doctor.

Medical restrictions: Not recommended for people with serious heart problems, severe respiratory issues, or knee/leg injuries (due to the stone steps).

Important: If you suffer from altitude sickness, this trek is more friendly because the maximum altitude is low (2,700 masl), compared to other treks that exceed 4,000 masl.

Essential (don't forget any of this):

  • Original passport (same one you booked with)
  • Immigration card (TAM) - given to you when entering Peru
  • Reusable water bottle (minimum 1.5 liters)
  • Comfortable walking clothes (light pants, quick-dry shirts)
  • Fleece or warm jacket (weather changes quickly)
  • Waterproof rain poncho (mandatory, even in dry season)
  • Trekking shoes or sneakers with good grip
  • Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses
  • Insect repellent (especially in the lower jungle area)
  • Camera
  • Cash in soles for extra purchases (souvenirs, snacks, tips)

Don't forget: Small or medium backpack (large suitcases are not practical).

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. Here are your options:

  • If you feel unwell during the trek: Our guides are trained in first aid and carry portable oxygen and a first aid kit. We can assess whether you can continue or need to rest.
  • If you cannot continue: We will coordinate your descent to the nearest point (generally Km 104) and from there we will transfer you to Aguas Calientes so you can visit Machu Picchu the next day on your own (with your included entrance ticket).
  • Cancellation due to major causes: Inca Trail tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE AND NON-TRANSFERABLE (Ministry of Culture policy). However, we can help you arrange entry to Machu Picchu by train if your physical condition allows.

We recommend purchasing travel insurance that covers cancellations due to medical reasons.
